The most important thing to have in your fish tank is beneficial bacteria!!! Without it your fish’s waste, excess food and other organic waste cannot be broken down and can cause high levels of toxicity which can be the main cause of disease in your aquarium. A nice thick layer of gravel increases the surface area of your tank allowing more space for this beneficial bacteria to grow. Never rinse any of your filter media under the tap as the chlorine in the tap water will kill your bacteria colony. Before adding fresh water to your tank when either topping up from water evaporating or doing a water change always treat it with a water conditioner prior to pouring it in. Try to adjust the pH of the water before adding it to your tank too – less to be adjusting and it helps keep your tank water consistent so your fish are less likely to stress with the change. A biological booster should be added to your tank on a weekly basis to keep it healthy. Come in and have a chat on how to keep the eco system in your aquarium a healthy one!! =]
Creepy crawlies living in the digestive tracts of your pet – ewww! Worms can be a cause of illness for many of our pets. Whether you have a bunny, bird, Burmese or a Boxer they all need to be treated regularly to ensure your pet is free of intestinal worms. Your pet doesn’t leave your yard you say? Doesn’t come in contact with other peoples pets? Wild birds and stray animals such as cats tend to come and go over our properties and it is these animals which are can spread such parasites. If your pet is due to be intestinal wormed, we can help you choose a regime that suits both yourself and your pet. Families also be aware that some tummy worms that our pets may carry, can be zoonotic ( transferred to humans) so when your pooch gets wormed maybe do the kids the same day!
Be honest now, no one does. The worse thing about owning a pet is the horrible stinky mess that can come out of them. Did you know that what comes out of your dog or cat is influenced by what goes in? What goes in wet, generally comes out a bit sloppier. What goes in dry, generally comes out a bit firmer. Your pets body will only absorb what is digestive, the rest is what comes out. That is the main difference between standard pet food and premium pet food. Premium diets are highly digestible which means your pets body will actually absorb much more of what goes in which equals less coming out!! Oh my goodness – LESS POO!!! We have a large range of Premium Diets available in store now. This includes Advance, Eukanuba, Hills Science Diet, Royal Canin and Nutro. Each of these highly digestible labels come with a 100% money back guarantee if your pet doesn’t enjoy them. Come in and have a chat with our knowledgeable staff about what diet may be best for your pet.
The last few days we have had a huge number of very upset families coming to us for support over losing their little guinea pig friends to the heat. Guinea pigs in the wild live underground where it is much cooler. In this hot weather, even in the shade it can reach temperatures well over what the average little pig can tolerate. Try to keep your guinea pig cool by moving him inside of the heat. Small cages suitable for this cause are available in store. Other ways include giving him so frozen water bottles to lie next to, freezing his vegetables ( corn, carrot, apples etc.) and wiping him down with a cool, damp cloth. Keep your guinea pigs cool in this aussie summer heat!!
Here in Balcatta we have a HUGE range of kitten toys, litter trays, litter, scratching poles, cat nip and even “Grow Your Own Cat Grass”.
